The first two-wheeled electric Mini will make its world debut at the Paris motor show this week. The Scooter E, defined as 'spontaneous, flexible, CO2-free mobility in the characteristic style of the brand', features a host of Mini design cues transferred onto a vehicle with a much smaller footprint.

China Developing Traffic-Straddling Bus That Drives Over Cars

The system, unveiled at the Beijing International High-tech Expo in May, consists of a 4 to 4.5 meter-high subway car with passenger boarding on the upper level and a hollow shell on the lower level for vehicles to pass through.
Shenzhen Hashi spouts off some impressive statistics for the system: capacity for 1200 to 1400 passengers, reduction in traffic jams by 20% to 30%. Would you really feel comfortable driving under a bus?
Beijing’s Mentougou District is already planning a pilot project for the system.

AutoVelo

This AutoVelo is an “Excellence Award Winner” from the 14th annual international Bicycle Design Competition at the 2010 Taipei Cycle Show.

This bike mimics the height at which you sit when you’re in a mid-sized car. The seat is also the same back angle and puts you in a place that allows your hands and feet to be in the same position as they’d be in your car as well. Why? So you’re at eye-level with the rest of the traffic that’s flying around you. And it’s electric, if you want.

Mercedes-Benz looks into the future

2050 is the new 2010 and that’s exactly when designer Felipe Palermo places his “Mercedes-Benz Arrow” concept. One of the big ideas here is that in the future, during the week, suspended rail systems will be used by the majority of the citizens of the major cities. Thus, this car must be a recreational vehicle made for use for fun on the weekends. The layout of this “Arrow” vehicle is done by TANDEM, the designer aiming to draw comparisons to other leisure vehicles such as motorcycles, jet skis, and personalized aircraft. This car works with a system of opposing magnets, MAGLEV, which allows the vehicle to take on some amazing curves.

A380's first class cabins

Instead of just a washroom with a lavatory, First Class passengers will find a luxurious bathroom with wash and changing areas separated from the lavatory area. The room is well- equipped with various bath amenities and provides plenty of space to move around in.

Thanks to a flexible privacy screen, First Class guests can determine the degree of individual privacy they desire.

On the A380, First Class passengers have an extraordinary amount of space. In the cabin, overhead bins were omitted in order to provide more headroom. Instead, each passenger has an individual closet, which is lockable, in addition to the generous storage facilities around the seat.

Lexus Hybrid Bicylce concept

Lexus introduced its Hybrid bicycle concept. The bicycle has two different modes, Eco and Power. Although the bicycle is made out of carbon fiber it, still weighs 17 kg. Currently, there are no plans to bring this bicycle into production.

VW Mimio concept

Jacky Wu has envisioned a scenario where all private cars would be prohibited in metropolitan areas by 2032 and major areas in the cities could be accessible only by bicycles. The Volkswagon Mimio car is the only car designed to overcome such scenarios.

Designed by Jacky Wu, the Volkswagon Mimio is a two-seater that contains space for folding bicycles. It contains two engines which ensures maximum performance by distributing power only when needed. The car also contains a rear dynamo to generate power through rear wheels which can prolong the battery life.

LEAF concept

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) showed its Ye Zi concept at the Beijing Auto Show. The "leaf"  supposedly gathers energy from the surrounding environment the same way a real leaf does. Plus it is shaped like one too. For more info on this eco-friendly car: Designboom 

World's largest solar catamaran: Planetsolar

Planetsolar, launched earlier this week in Germany, is powered entirely by up to 500 square metres of photovoltaic solar panels. It is considered to be the world's largest solar boat. The 31m long and 15m wide craft is expected to be able capture 103.4 kW of solar energy to drive its engine which apparently only needs 20kW, to achieve an average speed of eight knots (15kph or 9mph). Although it is hoped it can also attain a top speed of roughly twice that.

SunPower has provided approximately 38,000 of their next generation all black photovoltaic cells, an efficiency of at least 22%, which they believe to be the highest efficiency solar cells commercially available.

Aptera: three-wheel electric car

The aptera 2e is an ultra-efficient three-wheel battery powered electric car that will be on sale at some point this year. Future iterations of the car may include a plug-in hybrid engine, which would lower the cost and make it more practical for a wider range of drivers.

Two wheeled urban transportation: the YikeBike

The YikeBike seems to be an ideal solution for Urban Transportation. The bike is made out of carbon fibre composite, only weighs 10kg and is foldable so that you can carry it, after use, wherever you like to bring it . A full charged battery gives you the possibility to commute around 10kms and if you are scared you will run out of battery on your home, you can always charge it. The battery will charge over 80% in less than 20 mins. Its maximum speed is 25km/hr.

Electric Folding Bike

This electric assisted pedaling bike, helps with difficult rides when you need that extra boost or when you’re just too lazy to bother but the other interesting part is the unique folding mechanism.
