Ikea's kitchen of the future

By the year 2040, your kitchen will be your personal trainer, dietician, psychologist and lifestyle coach. The kitchen of the future will have mood-adjusting kitchenware, self-cleaning appliances, mood lighting, integrated sixth-generation iPads, 3D food printing and fridges that project cooking tutorials. They say that by 2040, the kitchen will be so high-tech that it will almost be alive, responding actively to our needs like only a mother could. After the jump are the three of Ikea’s kitchens of the future.

• INTUITIV kitchen
The LED light projections in this kitchen adjust to your mood and sensor can tell you if you drank heavily last night. The high-tech fridge will show you the breakfast options and the essential vitamins you need on a particular day.

• ELEMENTARA – The Back to Nature Kitchen
Its focus is on energy saving and a connection to the nature. You can grow your own food, which could be kept cool and fresh through cold larders. The Elementra puts emphasis on using kitchen appliances that help you cut down on electricity bills.

•SKARP - The Smart Kitchen
The Skarp kitchen is the most advanced and iPad styled devices will be used for communication. Cooking or cleaning is done at the touch of a button.

This independent Future Kitchen report made by The Future Laboratory. Ikea commissioned the London-based consultancy for trend forecasting, consumer insight and brand strategy to visualize the kitchen of 2040.
